A Day to Chill

 We had been pretty active the first part of our trip, so we decided to take the day to enjoy our amazing house.  After breakfast, we took the path down to the beach to do a little exploring.  There was a little shed that came with the house that we took a peek into.  Boy, were we surprised.  Inside was a little Victorian looking room with wallpaper, a couch, a couple of chairs and a trunk with dress up clothes.  Of course we couldn't resist trying it out.  What a hoot!





We keep wondering down to the beach which afforded incredible views of sand, rocks and ocean.  There was a spot just full of shells which we had to sort through for a few favorites.  And did I mention, we were the only ones there.  What a luxury, our own private beach!





We went back in town to get a few more items for dinner.  The store serves multi-purposes with food, toys, clothing, hardware, shoes, bedding, and probably a general gathering spot for the locals.  What fun.

Tonight we took advantage of some of the food that was provided with the house.  We had breakfast packs for each day of our stay which included sausages we hadn't been enjoying for breakfast, so we decided to have the English favorite, bangers and mash for dinner.

Across the Ocean

 This will be our 4th trip to Australia.  Our first trip was when our boys were in Middle School.  We spent time in Sydney and also north where we went out on the Great Barrier Reef .  Our second was part of a much larger trip so was just for a few days.  In 2019 we were fortunate enough to visit Adelaide, Gold Coast, Kangaroo Island,  and Brisbane.  This time were making a fast visit to Melbourne and then to Tasmania, which is always shortened to Tassy.   Before heading over, we stopped to visit our son and daughter-in-law in LA for a couple of days.  There's a direct LAX to Sydney flight which is much cheaper than starting the trip in Tulsa. It also gave us a little time to regroup since I have been 100% focused on taxes the last few weeks. We’re looking forward to our two week adventure down under. Next: A couple of days in Melbourne

Boating Around

 The cliffs that surround Port Arthur are on visible by boat, so we took what appears to be a very popular tour this morning around the point.  The geology around these rock formations is fascinating and varies as you head down the coast.  You can see where the rock was forced into the air, mostly at an angle, which gives the impression that the water is not level.  Caves also pocket the walls.  Monoliths jut into the sky which are a popular climbing destinations although not easy to get to.   We ran across a pod of seals laying on their backs warming under the sun.  Our guide told us they have fat that warms in the sun which explains their position in the water.  We also saw other seals while out sunning on the cliffs not really minding our intrusion.    Because it was a calm and sunny day we were able to go out and around the island that housed the lighthouse for the cliffs.  This sounded like a horrible assignment for the four or...

On the way to Melbourne

  Let’s address the Elephant in the Room – the flight time from the US to Australia.  The number one comment I hear when I tell people I’m heading to Australia is I’d love to go, but I don’t think I could stand to be on a plane for that long.  The flight time from Los Angeles to Sydney is a little over 14 hours.  If you’re fortunate enough to fly Business this can actually be a pleasant trip.  You have time to sleep, eat at least two meals, and watch a movie or two or three.  If you’re not in a lay flat seat, it still may be preferred to spending the day with in-laws on Christmas or having a root canal , but it won’t be the worst thing you’ll ever experience in your lifetime, not by a long shot.
