Until Next Time

It was time to start winding down our trip.  This would be our last day in Tasmania so we kept it pretty low key.  Because the days had been starting out clear then slowly clouding over, we decided to head to the top of Mount Wellington for a view over the city.  The winding, narrow road to the top would obviously need to be shut down during winter months because it would be impossible during snow and ice which I was assured that they get.  Fortunately this was a nice spring day so we had no problems.

There’s a glassed in visitor center at the top where you can look out over Hobart and the bay.  You realize just how much waterway is available to the city which is why, I’m sure, it was built here.  Even though it was a beautiful day, it was very windy and flat out cold once you left your car.  I wished I had brought my coat instead of just a light jacket.  I dashed out to an observation point for a fast photo which was just about all I could handle.

We all needed to warm up after our chilly excursion so we headed to the Pigeon Hole for a very yummy breakfast.  The few tables in this well known bakery filled quickly after we arrived.  Not just your standard breakfast menu, we actually had breakfast enchiladas which were quite good and unexpected so far from Mexico.

We returned to our condo before heading out for a little shopping.  Lots of local shopping surrounded the area we were staying in so we decided to spend our last afternoon shopping.  Our main purchase was a new suitcase to take back all our purchases from our time there.

For our last meal we visited an Irish Pub for some traditional pub fare.  It was very popular with the local crowd so we felt good about our choice.  We were all packed and ready to head to the airport in the morning for our overnight stay in Sidney.

Sidney was a quick stopover.  The flights to LAX were too early to catch after an early flight from Hobart so we opted to spend the night at the airport which was conveniently located across from the International Terminal.  There’s also a train station in the airport that can take you into Sydney with a stop near the Opera House and a large ferry terminal.  It was raining so we weren’t too excited about walking around so we just went to a seafood restaurant where I could get Morton Bay Bugs, a lobster like crustacean that is very similar to a Caribbean lobster that doesn’t have large claws.  It was delicious and should be on everyone’s bucket list if visiting Australia.

Until next time…..
